News Prof. Dr. Philipp Moroder receives Hawkins Award for shoulder study
Philipp Moroder, Senior Consultant in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Schulthess Klinik, had the huge honour of accepting the Hawkins Award at the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) Annual Meeting. His study is the first to compare the long-term impact of two different surgical procedures for shoulder instability with bone defects in the socket.
Researchers in the field of shoulder surgery have been trying to discover which procedure delivers the best results for patients with shoulder instability and bone defects in the socket for years. In his award-winning study, Prof. Dr. Philipp Moroder directly compared two different techniques – coracoid transfer and free bone graft surgery. The results of the study will help medical professionals to make the right choice for their patients.
Philipp Moroder has now been awarded the Hawkins Award, one of the top ASES accolades, in recognition of this clinical study. His bicentric study is a world first as a randomised comparison of these two procedures with a five-year follow-up time. The results have made a valuable contribution to this discussion in the field of shoulder surgery. “Our research will help medical professionals to choose the right treatment for their patients,” explains Philipp Moroder. True to Schulthess Klinik’s commitment to innovation and cutting-edge medicine, he applies his expertise at the clinic but also shares it with fellow specialists all around the world.
