The 21-year-old Akhmed Tazhudinov is regarded as the greatest freestyle talent of our time. Shortly before the Olympic Games, he suffered a partial ligament tear in his shoulder joint and sustained further injuries to his shoulder during the competitions in Paris. Despite being in pain, the wrestler fought his way to the gold medal.

After the games, the Bahrain team doctor contacted Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, Head of the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery department at Schulthess Klinik, due to the severity of the injuries. Here, he and his team performed a minimally invasive operation that not only stabilised the acromioclavicular joint, but also treated a partial tear of the long biceps tendon.

The surgical technique developed at Schulthess Klinik allowed Dr Scheibel to treat both injuries in a single operation, which drastically eased the gold medalist’s healing process. The innovative procedure reduces the risks associated with surgery and promises a faster return to full athletic performance for Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov. Schulthess Klinik is proud to be assisting in his recovery and looks forward to seeing him back in action soon.
